Rice (Sort-Composition)

Rice

Introduction : Rice is a kind of corn obtained from paddy plants. It is the chief food of many people of the world. About half of the people of the world live on rice.

Where grown : Rice grows best in hot and moist climate. It grows best in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, China, Japan, Thailand and Mayanmar(Burma).

Kinds : There are two main kinds of rice in our country- Aus and Aman. Aus is coarse but Aman is fine. Balam, Biroi, Kataribhog are other kinds of very fine rice. Boro and IRRI are other two kinds of rice. The seeds of Aus rice are sown in the month of Baishakh. It ripens in Sravan or Bhadra. Aman rice ripens in Agrahaya or Pous. The Boro rice grows in the spring season. IRRI is grown throughout the year. It needs irrigation.

Method of cultivation : First of all farmers till the land. Then the land is watered well and seedlings of paddy are sown. After two months ear of paddy comes out. In about a month paddy ripens. Then it looks yellow. When it ripens, the plants are cut down and tied in sheaves. Then paddy is separated from the straw. It is separated either by beating or by treading.

How obtained : Boiled rice and sunned rice are two kinds of rice. If paddy is boiled before it is dried in the sun, we get boiled rice. Sunned rice is got from the paddy dried in the sun.

Usefulness : Rice is our chief food. Muri, Chira, Khai are prepared from paddy. Cakes are made of rice. Rice is also used in making paper and wine. Cattle eat straw and bran.

Conclusion : Rice is very useful to us. We should take care to grow more and more rice.
